Lithium
Thionyl Chloride(Li-SOCl2) batteries have a high energy
density, and its nominal voltage is 3.6V. Bobbin structure
is best suit for low current discharge and spiral structure
is best suited for high current discharge.
Principle and Reactions
The Li-SOCl2 battery uses liquid Thionyl Chloride (SOCl2) as
its positive active material, and Lithium (Li) as its
negative active material. The reactions of the batteries are
shown below.
Positive reaction: 2SOCl2 + 4Li+ + 4e- →4LiCl + S + SO2
Negative reaction: Li → Li+ + e-
Total reaction: 2SOCl2+4Li → 4LiCl+ S + SO2 |
