Lithium
Manganese Oxide (Li-Mn2O4) battery is a kind of
rechargeable battery with the nominal voltage of 3.7V per
cell. Li-Mn2O4 battery has a higher cell voltage, more
stable and higher temperature performance. Manganese is much
cheaper and is more abundant; therefore, Li-Mn2O4 battery
has a lower price. Li-Mn2O4 batteries are best suitable for
electric vehicle and electric tools.
Principle and Reactions:
When the Li-Mn2O4 battery is charged, the lithium ions in
the cathode material (lithium compound) migrate via a
separator to between the layers of carbon material that form
the anode, and a charging current flow. When the battery is
discharged, the reverse occurs.
Positive reaction: LiMn2O4 → Li1-x Mn2O4 + xLi+ + xe−.
Negative reaction: xLi+ + xe− + 6C → LixC6.
Total reaction: LiMn2O4 + 6C → Li1-xMn2O4 + LixC6. |
